Trophy Guide Overview

Remember how the original The Last of Us had a pretty tough trophy list with lots of multiplayer. Yeah, there's not of that here. The platinum for this game is extremely easy. You can play on the easiest difficulty and nothing is missable. The trophy list essentially one big collectathon. Save for a couple of random chapter related trophies the rest of them are tied to finding certain things in the game. For that reason, I have put together an All-In-One collecible guide. You can find the link HERE. This guide will do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the platinum, pretty everything is covered in it.

To make this game even easier there are a lot of Accessibility options made for people who may have disabilities. These do not affect trophies and can be used to your advantage if you like. I will just highlight a scenario where you can make the game and finding all of the collectibles even easier.

Go to Options - Magnification and Visual Aids - High Contrast Display - Setting 1.

This will completely change the look of the game. This mode is obviously meant for people who have trouble with their sight, but it makes finding objects very easy. Friendly NPCs are blue, enemies are red and objects are yellow.

High Contrast.jpg

Secondly, go to Options - Navigation and Traversal - Enhanced Listening Mode - On - Scan Range 30m - Scan Time 5s.

Now when you hold R1 and press O, you emit a sonar pulse that highlights all items nearby, there's also an audible beep as it find something too.

High Contrast 2.jpg

Now there are plenty of other options which make the game even easier. So just play around with them and choose what ever you like, or you can put it on survivor (not needed for a trophy) with no accessibility options and go from there. It's completely up to you.

IMPORTANT NOTE

While you can use chapter select to go back and find anything you may have missed or do any of the chapter specific trophies, it will overwrite your progress, even when you've finished the game. So when you reach the end of the game or anytime you want to use chapter select, make a manual save. Most importantly when you are in the last chapter of the game though. To make a manual save, press options and choose save game. This will create a save you can always load up and still be at the end of the game with all chapters available to you.

The problem is that if you are at the end of the game and you for example, go back to Seattle Day One using chapter select, you will not be able to use chapter select to go to any chapter after that. You will be stuck in Seattle Day One and will have to play through the game again to advance. Loading up your manual save from the final chapter will open up all chapter select options again.

Now when it comes to collectibles, this isn't a problem. As soon as you pick them up, they are saved. Not to your autosave or manual save, but to a profile/master save. So you can use chapter select, find a collectible, then load your manual save and it will still count.

Hopefully this dreadful chapter select gets patched in the future, but you have been warned.

Play-through One (Any Difficulty)

For this step you will want to put the game on any diffilcuty you like and follow along with my All-In-One Collectibles guide HERE and find everything. There aren't enough weapon parts or supplements in the game to fully upgrade all weapons or purchase all player upgrades, which are both needed for trophies. So don't worry about that, this is the reason for the half play-though after this one. The only two trophies you should have left after you finish this play-through are 'Survival Expert' and 'Arms Master'.

Play-Through Two (New Game Plus)

Start a new game plus on any difficulty picking up all of the weapon parts and supplements you can find. You can ignore everything else. Be prepared to sit through some lengthy loading screens if you choose to skip cut-scenes. You will need to play to roughly 'Hostile Territory' again to have enough weapon parts and supplements to fully upgrade everything, (Make sure you fully upgrade Ellie by the end of 'The Flooded City'). Once that's done you should get both 'Survival Expert' and 'Arms Master', then the platinum.

Learn all player upgrades

Gold Trophy.png

This will most likely be the last trophy that you unlock. The reason you need to play a partial New Game + is for this trophy and the following trophy.

There are 10 player upgrade branches in the game, five for Ellie and five for Abby. Each branch has five upgrades, but not all branches are available from the start, in fact, they only have one available each. The remaining eight are unlocked by finding the eight Training Manuals in the game. For their locations, please refer to my All-In-One collectibles guide, it can be found HERE.

To purchase player upgrades you need supplements. Supplements are found through-out the story, but there are not enough supplements available from one play-through to fully upgrade either character, Ellie or Abby. For this reason you will need to start a New Game Plus and play roughly up to 'Hostile Territory' in 'Seattle Day One' as Abby. That's a large chunk of the game, just over half. Supplements and upgrade paths are NOT shared by Ellie and Abby, they are completely separate. Chapter select does NOT work for supplements the same way it does for other collectibles, you need to play New Game Plus.

For locations of supplements, please once again, refer to my All-In-One collectibles guide, HERE.

Quick note: If you are not finding any more supplements as a character, it's because they are fully upgraded. You don't need any more, so they won't spawn.

Below is a list of each of the upgrade branches, along with the price of each upgrade. To get to a later upgrade in any given branch you will need to have the ones before it first.

Fully upgrade all weapons

Gold Trophy.png

This will most likely be the second to last trophy that you unlock. The reason you need to play a partial New Game + is for this trophy and the previous trophy.

There are 10 weapons that need fully upgrading for this trophy, five for Ellie and five for Abby. Each of these characters start with just two weapons, you will find the rest as you play through the story. For their locations, please refer to my All-In-One collectibles guide, it can be found HERE.

To purchase weapon upgrades you will need weapon parts. Weapon parts, like supplements are found through-out the story, but there are not enough weapon parts available from one play-through to fully upgrade either character's weapons. For this reason you will need to start a New Game Plus and play roughly up to 'On Foot' in 'Seattle Day One' as Abby. That's a large chunk of the game, just over half. You should be able to find enough parts to fully upgrade all weapons, before you find enough supplements to learn all player upgrades. Weapon Parts and upgrade paths are NOT shared by Ellie and Abby, they are completely separate. Chapter select does NOT work for supplements the same way it does for other collectibles, you need to play New Game Plus. Luckily you do not need to find all of the weapons again to upgrade them. Once you reach 'Seattle Day One' as Ellie, she will have all of her weapons from the previous play-through. The same goes for Abby too.

For locations of weapon part locations, please once again, refer to my All-In-One collectibles guide, HERE.

Quick note: If you are not finding any more weapon parts as a character, it's because their weapons are fully upgraded. You don't need any more, so they won't spawn. Also, both the Flamethrower and Silenced Submachine Gun have NO upgrades.

Below is a list of each of the upgrade branches, along with the price of each upgrade.

There are 25 workbenches to find, most of which are in very obvious locations. You don't need to interact with them for them to count, just standing close to them is good enough to register them. Having said that, I would advise just interacting with each one as you come across them.

Workbenches are where you can upgrade your weapons, provided you have collected enough weapon parts.

SIlver Trophy.png

There are 14 safes that you will need to find and unlock for this trophy.

There are two ways to find the combination to each safe. Firstly, there will be an Artefact within the vicinity of the safe that will either give you a clue to the combination or it will out-right tell you what it is. Alternatively, you can actually listen to the clicks as you rotate the lock. When you hit the right number, there will be a distinctive click. A pretty cool little detail. You may need to turn up your TV to be able to hear it properly.

For the location of each safe and their combination, please visit my All-In-One collectible guide, HERE.

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the sub-chapter 'Downtown' in 'Seattle Day One' as Ellie. This chapter has the largest 'open-world' section of the game. You are allowed to explore a few blocks of downtown Seattle at your leisure. To unlock this trophy you will need to visit every location, basically enter all of the buildings that you can enter. There are ten of them.

These are all of the locations show below on the map. When you arrive at a location, Ellie will mark it on the map. Once it's clear and you seen everything there is to see, Ellie will cross it off. Now you don't need to cross each location off, as you go for it to count, but I definitely have a look inside each one. You will be doing this while going for all of the collectibles any way.

Seattle Map.png

I have numbered the buildings in the order that I visit them in the video below, you can use that as a visual guide if you would prefer to a step-by-step guide. Skip to 06:32 in the video to start the chapter 'Downtown'.

Craft every item

Bronze Trophy.png

There are 12 items that you can craft during the game. Some of the recipes are shared between the characters, like health kits, but some are specific to either Ellie or Abby. Below is a list of where to find each recipe and what you will need to craft each item. Just like the first game scavenging is very important especially on higher difficulties, so always be on the lookout for materials. You will need to find certain training manuals before you can purchase some of the crafting recipes. If you are going for the platinum, you will have every recipe you need to craft everything by the end of the game.

  • Health Kit (Ellie & Abby) - Alcohol & Rag - Automatic during the chapter 'Patrol'.

  • Silencer (Ellie & Abby) - Rag & Canister - As Ellie purchase first 'Stealth' player upgrade. Automatic during the chapter 'The Stadium' for Abby,

  • Melee Upgrade (Ellie & Abby) - Binding, Blade & Melee weapon - As Ellie purchase the first 'Crafting' player upgrade. Automatic during the chapter 'The Stadium' for Abby.

  • Molotov (Ellie) - Alcohol & Rag - Automatic during the chapter 'Patrol'.

  • Stun/Smoke Bombs (Ellie) - Canister & Explosive - Stun bombs are found in the chapter 'Downtown'. Either in the guard tower in front of the Synagogue or inside the pet shop. They turn into smoke bombs when you purchase the third 'Crafting' player upgrade.

  • Trap Mines (Ellie) - Canister & Explosive - Found in the chapter 'Capitol Hill'. Near the start of that chapter you will have to go through a motel. Instead of going through it, look to the right to find a fenced off area with a dumpster. Move that dumpster under the nearby window and jump up. Inside this apartment, in the back bedroom is the Trap Mine.

  • Arrows (Ellie) - Binding & Blade - Automatic during the chapter 'Hillcrest'. When you find the bow, which you find as part of the story, you will automatically get the arrow recipe.

  • Explosive Arrows (Ellie) - Explosive & Binding - Purchase the first 'Explosive' player upgrade.

  • Pipe Bombs (Abby) - Alcohol, Canister & Explosive - Automatic once you find the required materials during the chapter 'On Foot'.

  • Incendiary Shells (Abby) - Alcohol & Explosive - Purchase the first 'Firearms' player upgrade.

  • Hunting Pistol Ammo (Abby) - Explosive & Blade - Purchase the second 'Firearms' player upgrade.

  • Shivs (Abby) - Binding & Blade - Purchase the first 'Covert Ops' player upgrade.

Put a hat on your companion

Bronze Trophy.png

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the chapter 'The Birthday Gift' in 'Seattle Day One' while playing as Ellie.

There are couple of simple steps to getting this trophy.

1. You will visit a museum with Joel. In the foyer of the museum if you look to the right you will see a hat, pick it up and Ellie will put it on. his head, unlocking the trophy.

Looks Good On You 1.jpg

2. From there go into the next room, the one with all of the dinosaurs. Immediately to your left is a Stegosaurus, press triangle near it's head to put the hat on it. After that, take it back off the dinosaur.

Looks Good On You 3.jpg

3. Go to the back of the dinosaur room to find a Dimetrodon, do the same to this dinosaur.

Looks Good On You 2.jpg

4. Now take the hat and go and interact with Joel and Ellie will put the hat on his head, unlocking the trophy.

Win the marksmanship competition

Bronze Trophy.png

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the chapter 'The Stadium' in 'Seattle Day One' while playing as Abby.

During 'The Stadium', right near the end of the chapter, you'll go to the armoury and pick up your weapons. This is part of the story. From there you can just go and get in the Jeep and move to the next chapter. Instead, look for Manny to the right, he'll be stood by a firing range. Interact with the door next to him to initiate the shooting range 'mini-game'. All you need to do to get this trophy is win. It's very simple just aim for the red sections (I personally went for headshots) of the target and take your time. There isn't a time limit, so no need to rush. Line each shot up and make sure the reticle shrink down each time so your as accurate as possible. You will have to get 10 points with each shot to be in with the best chance of beating Manny. If you fail, you can try again via chapter select.

Put My Name Up.png

Put My Name Up

Earn the high score in the archery game

Bronze Trophy.png

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the chapter 'Winter Visit' in 'Seattle Day One' while playing as Abby.

During 'Winter Visit', you'll be back in the aquarium with Owen. In the first room of the chapter, the reception, you will find a purple toy bow on the left side. Interacting with this starts the mini-game. In fact, you have to interact with it before you can leave the room and continue the chapter. Before doing that though, look around the room and take note of where all of the paper targets are. There are twelve of them, some of them are up high, but most are obvious. Once you have a good idea of a pattern, I just went from right of the bow in a clockwise movement around the room, pick up the bow and start shooting them down. You are timed, but it's roughly a minute, which is more than long enough to get the 11 needed for the trophy. I think I had ten seconds left the first time I tried it. You don't need to be accurate, just as long as you hit the target and it falls down, that's good enough. You can also get as close as you want to them as well.

If you fail, you can retry via chapter select.

Relic of the Sages.png

Relic of the Sages

Find the Strange Artifact

Bronze Trophy.png

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the chapter 'Hostile Territory' in 'Seattle Day One' while playing as Abby.

During 'Hostile Territory', you will eventually get to a small street in a Chinese district with shops on either side. Look out for the colourful graffiti pictured below, when you see that you know you're in the right place. You can't miss it, you have to walk passed it. When you do, look for the third shop on the left and enter it, at the back of this shop are some stairs, go upstairs and you'll be faced with two clickers. You can move to the left and ignore them, or kill them, your choice. Either way from there, jump across to the building on the other side of the street. Once across, head left and you will find a hold in the floor, don't drop down it. Instead look in the right corner for a white fan, next to it is the Strange Artifact, or Precursor Orb. Pick it up to unlock the trophy.

Bronze Trophy.png

Chapter Specific Trophy

You can only get this trophy during the chapter 'Downtown' in 'Seattle Day One' while playing as Ellie.

During 'Downtown' you will be in an open world section of Seattle. From the starting position look to the left. at sort of an 11'o clock position across the river, you'll see a bank. Enter the bank and clear out the infected. In the back left corner you will find a dark room with a vault door. In this room is a satchel on the floor, open it up to find an artefact that will give the code for the vault door (60-23-06). Open the vault and look in the back right corner to find a drawer you can open. Open it up to find the Engraved Ring, pick it up to unlock the trophy.
