Final Fantasy VII Remake
Side Mission

There are 26 side missions in Final Fantasy VII Remake, but you can only complete 24 out of the 26 on each play-through. This is because there are two pairs of conflicting side missions in chapter 9. You can either do 'The Party Never Stops' and 'A Dynamite Body' or 'The Price of Thievery' and 'Shears' Counterattack'. This isn't a problem, you can replay chapter and choose the other path once you have completed the game using chapter select. Chapter select can be found in the system part of the options menu.

You will need to play both sets of side mission for the 'Dressed to the Nines' trophy anyway, as each path will result in Cloud wearing a different dress at the end of chapter 9.

For more details on these four mission, please see their respective sections below.

CHAPTER 3: Home Sweet Slum

1. Chadley's Report

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available, with Chadley's Report being one of them.

To complete this mission, you'll need complete the Monster bio Pt. 1 Battle Intel. To complete that, you'll need to use the Assess Materia on two different types of enemies. You can do that during a different side mission, or just head to Scrap Boulevard and assess a gorger and a wererat.

2. Rat Problem

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available, with Rat Problem being one of them.

To complete this mission, you'll need to defeat two groups of enemies for the shop keeper. First there will be wererats, then doomrats. Return to the shopkeeper after killing the first group (wererats), this will make the doomrats appear.

3. Nuisance in the Factory

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available, with 'Nuisance in the Factory' being one of them.

To start this mission, go and speak to the junk dealer at the far corner of the map. He'll tell you about some drakes that are causing a 'nuisance'. Head round to the gate close to the start of the chapter and you'll speak to another guy, Narjin, he'll let you into the factory.

Now it's just a case of making your way around the factory grounds and taking care of the three drakes that are there. With them being drakes, they obviously fly which is quite annoying, luckily is you lock onto them it makes them easier to track and attack, as Cloud will automatically jump up to attack them. Kill all three, then warp back to the junk dealer to finish the mission.

4. Lost Friends

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available, with Lost Friends being one of them.

To complete this mission, you simply need to find three specific white cats and interact with them, then go and speak to the little girl again.

5. On the Prowl

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available.

Complete the 'Rat Problem' side mission that the shopkeeper gives you, then this mission, On the Prowl will become available.

To start this mission, you'll need to speak Wymer. He will tell you about a rabid dog that needs taking care of. Head into Scrap Boulevard to find it. It's actually a Wrath Hound. When you first encounter it you can only damage it so much before it runs off.

After that hunt it down to finish it off, it's near the entrance to Scrap Boulevard. During this second phase of the fight, the dog is a lot more aggressive. It is weak to ice spells, so if you are struggling you can use those. I found being hyper aggressive as Tifa seemed to work best.

Return to Wymer once it's dead to finish the mission.

6. Just Flew in from the Graveyard

Side missions start becoming available during Chapter 3: Home, Sweet, Slum. During that chapter you will talk to a boy called Chadley as part of the main mission. After that the first four side missions of chapter 3 will become available, the 'Nuisance in the Factory' is one of them and you'll have to complete that before 'Just Flew in from the Graveyard' appears.

Once it does, go and speak to Gwen who is stood near the factory gates. She will tell you about another drake needs clearing out of the factory. It is a stronger drake with ice-based attacks, but using the same tactic of locking onto to it and attacking it in mid-air still works well. Damage is enough so that it becomes pressured, then use strong abilities on it when it's near the ground.

CHAPTER 8: Budding Bodyguard

7. The Mysterious Moogle Merchant

Screen Shot 2020-04-29 at 13.34.13.png

Side missions become available in chapter 8 once you have finished the 'Escort the Children' main mission. This will be the first side mission you'll come across, as you'll already be in the 'Children's Secret Hideout'.

Once you finish the 'Escort the Children' main mission, turn to Moogie and speak to them, buy the Moogle Membership Card for one Moogle Medal, and you'll complete the mission. That's all there is to it, no need for a video for this one.

8. Kids on Patrol

During chapter 8 'Budding Bodyguard', you'll save a couple of children as part of one of the main missions. Once you do that an area known as 'Children's Secret Hideout' will open up to you and side missions will become available in the chapter, 'Kids on Patrol' is one of those side missions.

For this side quest, you'll need to do two things, first find the five children that are out on patrol. They are in the 'Central District' part of Section 5. After that you will need to go into the junkyard where you saved the two children as part of the main quest line. There you will find the Hedgehog Pie King, along with two minions. Kill him and that will be the mission complete.

9. Weapons on a Rampage

During chapter 8 'Budding Bodyguard', you'll save a couple of children as part of one of the main missions. Once you do that an area known as 'Children's Secret Hideout' will open up to you and side missions will become available in the chapter, 'Weapons on a Rampage' is one of those side missions.

To complete this side mission you'll need to enter the junk yard and destroy five Mark II monodrive enemies. They are split into two groups, one consisting of 3 and the other of 2. These robots are weak to wind, so bring that materia along if you have it. They will use shields during the fight, when they do, switch to Aerith and spam them with magic attacks. This will bring their shields down allowing Cloud to do damage again. Simply destroy all five then return to the quest giver to finish the mission.

10. A Verified Hero

During chapter 8 'Budding Bodyguard', you'll save a couple of children as part of one of the main missions. Once you do that an area known as 'Children's Secret Hideout' will open up to you and side missions will become available in the chapter, 'Kids on Patrol' is one of those side missions. Once you have completed that mission, you'll go back to the 'Children's Secret Hideout' and be able to accept this mission.

I haven't made a separate video for this one, as essentially the side mission requires you to just finish a round of Whack-a-Box in the 'Children's Secret Hideout'. Instead I have included the trophy guide for the top score for reference.

11. The Angel of the Slums

During chapter 8 'Budding Bodyguard', you'll save a couple of children as part of one of the main missions. Once you do that an area known as 'Children's Secret Hideout' will open up to you and side missions will become available in the chapter. Before you can complete this mission, you'll need to complete 'Kids on Patrol' and then return to the 'Children's Secret Hideout'.

This mission is essentially a boss fight against a large machine called Chromogger. So make sure both Cloud and Aerith have a lightning materia. You can't really damage it with physical attacks until it's staggered and you can't stagger stagger it with physical attacks either. Use lightning magic on its iron sphere to eventually stagger it, then you can use physical attacks to damage it.

12. Paying Respects

During chapter 8 'Budding Bodyguard', you'll save a couple of children as part of one of the main missions. Once you do that an area known as 'Children's Secret Hideout' will open up to you and side missions will become available in the chapter. Before 'Paying Respects' becomes available you will have to complete 'Weapons on a Rampage'.

To complete this mission you near need to clear a path to the graveyard. This involves killing three Venomantis, but before that, if you haven't bought the graveyard key from Moogie, you will have to do that first. You can find them in the 'Children's Secret Hideout'.

Once you have it, head to the graveyard and kill the three Venomantis. They are pretty tough enemies. They are weak to ice, so make sure to bring those materia with you. I found it most effective to concentrate on one at a time to level the field, numbers wise.

CHAPTER 9: The Town That Never Sleeps

13. Burning Thighs

During chapter 9 'The Town That Never Sleeps', you'll visit a place called Wall Market. After a few missions Aerith will stay with Madam M and get changed into her dress. At this point side missions will become available.

To start this side mission, speak to Jules in the gym in Wall Market. He will challenge you to a squat challenge. To complete this mission you just need to win the tutorial of the challenge. Which is very easy, it's a nice slow rhythm mini-game. For reference I have included the video above which is for the 'Sultan of Squat' trophy. I do all three rounds of the squat challenge in the video, but you only need to complete the first for the side mission.

14(a). The Party Never Stops

During chapter 9 'The Town That Never Sleeps', you'll visit a place called Wall Market. After a few missions Aerith will stay with Madam M and get changed into her dress. At this point side missions will become available.

Unlike other chapters there are branching paths of side missions in chapter 9, you can not complete them all in one go, you will have to replay the mission later to complete the second path. Which branch of missions you get depends on a few choices you made during the main missions in Wall Market. The choices are below:

1. When you first get to Wall Market and speak to Chocobo Sam, he will ask your opinion of Tifa, make sure to answer with 'She’s in great Shape'. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE.

2. When you arrive in Wall Market, you'll see Johnny run down some steps and down an alley. Follow him, when you catch up to him and speak him say 'yeah'. DO NOT CHOOSE 'NO'.

3. During the main mission 'The Trio' you'll speak to Chocobo Sam and he'll toss a coin, choose 'Heads' OR 'Tails'. DO NOT CHOOSE 'NO DEAL'.

4. When you enter Madam M's massage parlour she'll offer you a choice of massage courses. Choose 'Luxury' or 'Standard'. DO NOT CHOOSE 'POOR MAN'S COURSE'.

As long as you have made the same choices as outlined above, you'll get this path of side mission, which starts with 'The Party Never Stops'. This mission is a string of fetch quests. Just run from shop to shop speaking to each person and finding what they need.

15(a). A Dynamite Body

As long as you have made the same choices as outlined above, you'll get this path of side mission, which starts with 'The Party Never Stops'. After you complete that mission and 'Burning Thighs' this mission will become available.

It is essentially a return to the arena for another fight and that's it. You will fight two 'Cacodemon' looking guys. Try not to hit them when they are red (on fire), wait for them to attack and go 'dull' at this point attack them, preferably with a move that does high stagger damage.

14(b). The Price of Thievery

The choices for this mission are below:

1. When you speak to Chocobo Sam as you arrive at Wall Market, choose 'She’s great at handling the books' when given the choice. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE.

2. When you arrive in Wall Market, you'll see Johnny run down some steps and down an alley. Ignore him completely.

3. During the main mission 'The Trio' you'll speak to Chocobo Sam and he'll toss a coin, choose 'No Deal'.

4. When you enter Madam M's massage parlour she'll offer you a choice of massage courses. Choose 'Poor Man's Course'.

As long as you have made the same choices as outlined above, you'll get this path of side mission, which starts with 'The Price of Thievery'. The mission consists of one fight, four thugs, very simple.

15(b). Shears' Counterattack

4. When you enter Madam M's massage parlour she'll offer you a choice of massage courses. Choose 'Poor Man's Course'.

As long as you have made the same choices as outlined above, you'll get this path of side mission, which starts with 'The Price of Thievery'. Once you have completed that this mission will become available. This mission involves you going back to the colosseum for a 'Special Fight'. It's against an enemy called 'Jury-rigged Cutter'. It is a robot enemy so equip a lightning materia and you'll take it down in no time.

CHAPTER 14: In Search of Hope

16. Missing Children

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

It's back to the graveyard for another fight in this mission and that's essentially all there is to it. The ghosts you encounter are weak to fire, so bring some fire materia along. Also, make sure to have your Enemy Skill materia equipped, you'll learn the 'Spirit Siphon' ability during the fight if you do.

17. Chocobo Search

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

Chocobo Search will start automatically as you try and leave Sector 5 Slums, the stablehand will come over and speak to you. Chocobos are used for fast travel for this chapter. The object of this mission is to find three more chocobos which will open up three more fast travel points.

They can be found in:

01:19 - #1 - Nuts 'n' Bolts Hills/Steel Mountain

04:57 - #2 - Sanctuary Way/Church Chapel

07:05 - #3 - Collapsed Express Way - Old Bypass

18. Malicious Goons

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

Go and speak to Madam M and she will tell you that some goons are heading towards Aerith's house. They can be found in the area where you fought Rude at the end of chapter 8.

Here you'll fight one enemy, Tonberry. He may be little, but he has a one-hit kill move called 'Chef's Knife', so make sure to keep your distance. Other than that he can be defeated fairly easily.

19. Wavering Heart

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

For this we're returning to see Jules in the gym in Wall Market. This time instead of squats, we're doing pull-ups. To complete this mission you simply need to win the first round, which is basically the tutorial. I have once again included my trophy guide video for this one.

20. The Sound of Music

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

To start this mission go and speak to the little girl, Betty, who is behind the hotel in Wall Market. She will want you to find the three music discs that are in Wall Market. Bring them back, play them and that will be the end of the mission. If you found the discs before starting the mission, you can just play them right away.

01:07 - Good Night, Until Tomorrow

01:37 - Fight On!

02:16 - Stand Up

21. Secret Medicine

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

To start this mission, speak to the doctor near the orphanage and he'll ask you to find him three ingredients, Moogie's Mortar, medicinal flowers and behemoth horn. The first two are very simple, buy the mortar from Moogie and pick the flowers from the church. The third ingredient, behemoth horn is a little more complicated, it's still attached to a behemoth.

You will need to complete the side mission 'Subterranean Menace' and encounter the Type-0 Behemoth and defeat it.

After you have all three ingredients, return to the doctor to complete the mission.

When it comes to actually fighting the creature known as 'Type-0 Behemoth' you want to keep on the move and go for the lower and upper body sections. Ignore the horn, it can't be damaged until the creature is staggered. To stagger it you need to deplete the health bars of both it lower and upper body. Try to do both at the same time. You can deplete them separately, but if you wait too long to finish of the remaining bar, the creature will regen all of its health and you'll have to start again.

Once the creature is staggered, throw everything you have at the horn. Once that is destroyed, you are free to use magic. Keep repeating this process until you finally defeat the creature. Then hold L1 to leave.

22. Tomboy Bandit

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

To start this side mission off, go and speak to Johnny at the sector 5 UnderCity station. He'll tell you that his wallet has been stolen. This is Johnny incident #4 for 'The Johnny Experience' trophy. Head to the church and you'll get stopped by Damon if you didn't speak to him outside of Centre District. This interaction will start the side mission 'Corneo's Secret Stash'. The reason this happens is that you get a key for finishing 'Tomboy Bandit' that relates to 'Corneo's Secret Stash'.

The mission itself is very easy. It's just a colosseum fight against The Gatekeeper and a Hellhound. The hound is weak to ice, so bring some ice materias.

Once the fight is won, just head back to the church for a big reveal and the end of the mission. The end of this video also has the final Johnny incident added on too. It's not technically part of the side mission, but he was the reason we started it.

23. Corneo's Secret Stash

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

This mission is closely connected to the side mission, 'Tomboy Bandit', you will have to finish that side mission first before you can open any of the secret stashes in this mission. This is because you will receive the Corneo's key at the end of it.

Once you have the key from the 'Tomboy Bandit' side mission, head to each of the gate locations and grab the tiara from each one. The first two locations are very straight forward. For the third one you'll have to have complete the main mission where you go into the sewers with Leslie near the end of the chapter. You can either open the stash during the mission, or return to the sewers later on.

24. Subterranean Menace

Side missions are available pretty much from the start of Chapter 14. This is a 'free-roam' chapter, you can move between all of the sectors that you have visited previously.

To start this mission you'll need to speak to Wymer, he can be found in the Sector 6 slums. This mission involves you going underground to hunt a beast. The creature you're after cannot be hurt using magic, so a melee based build is recommended for each character.

Then hold L1 to leave the facility.
